Skillful Stonehenge!, by Mrs Ashford Eaton

Date: 8th Nov 2016 @ 11:36am

Stonehenge came alive today when Year 3 had a ‘mammoth’ task on their hands.

1000 boxes were kindly donated by Mr Whitehead. The children used these to build their replica Stonehenge. They started the day by learning how to assemble the boxes by folding the flaps. Surprisingly it only took them 30 minutes to put them together. The next task was to move the boxes into the hall; the children created a human conveyor belt to transport the boxes, much like they might have done in the Stone Age. Next, the children were split into 2 groups and given time to come up with a building strategy. The children had 20 minutes to construct Stonehenge. They improved their team working and problem solving skills whilst thoroughly enjoying the activity.

All of the staff were amazed by their ability to work together as a cohesive unit and produce a fantastic example of Stonehenge. Well done Year 3!

Choir Recording Experience, by Miss Young

Date: 29th Oct 2016 @ 11:02pm

On Friday 21st October the choir were very lucky to have the experience of their singing being recorded! Staff from Orchard Recording Studios in Alsager visited the school and set up a mini studio in one of the classrooms. The choir were very excited and nervous at the same time! They recorded a range of songs that are to be sung on Friday 11th November at the United Reformed Church in Congleton to commemorate Remembrance Day. Please come and support us on the night and see just how fabulous they really are! CDs will also be sold of the songs that were recorded! All of the children did a fantastic job and I was very impressed with how they sounded on the day. They should all be unbelievably proud of themselves and what they have achieved!

Year 3 have had a fantastic day taking part in different activities about the Stone Age. They started they day by thinking about Stone Age foods and where they might be collected from. Apples from the school grounds were then foraged and stewed for the children to use in their own fruit crumble which they thoroughly enjoyed making the topping for! We hope that you enjoy tasting them at home!

In the afternoon the children learnt all about Stone Henge and worked in groups to try and recreate the famous monument from pink wafer biscuits. They did a super job and had lots of fun! We used our problem solving skills and fantastic team work.

I have to say, we were so impressed by the effort and the creations that many children clearly put into their learning log; and they look like they must have had a lot of fun as well!

Underwater Street Trip - Reception, by Mrs Grice

Date: 11th Jul 2016 @ 8:40am

What a fantastic day we all had on our adventure to ‘Liverpool Underwater Street’!

We started the day on a double decker coach which was very exciting and off we went.  The ‘Underwater Street’ is a discovery centre full of various activities and workshops that allowed us to imagine, explore and learn practically in a fun, practical way J

As soon as we arrived we all had a drink and snack and listened to the staff explain all the wonderful opportunities that were available.  The children then had chance to explore the ‘Street’ which included a pizza restaurant, vets, supermarket, building site and plenty of dressing up.  We had choices to make travel bags, 3D flowers, magnets, bath bombs and smelly, slippery slime as a part of the workshops where the staff explained how each process worked.  There was also a ‘smelling wall’, water exploration, panning for gold, a ‘shadows’ room, cave with stalactites and our favourite climbing wall.  We were amazed at having the chance to paint a real car and the walls!!!!!!!

Lunch was also a fun, sociable time as we all sat together at tables and thoroughly enjoyed our picnic bags! (Thank you Mrs Speak J)  Soon it was time for our ‘Science’ workshop where we learnt how to make and move huge bubbles and watched as one of each class became a ‘professor’ and helped to invent an exploding potion.  It was fascinating!

All too soon it was time to leave with our bags of creative goodies and happy, smiling faces.  What a wonderful day and an exciting educational place to visit!  The children were a delight to take out of school as their behaviour was impeccable and a real credit to our school, we were very proud J

A huge thank you to all our helpers who came with us and helped us to manage a superb day for everyone!!
