Year 4 have fun with science, by Mrs Knibbs

Date: 29th Nov 2017 @ 9:32am

Tuesday morning saw six, excited year 4 pupils arrive at Black Firs Primary School, where they were led through four science experiments.

Astra Zeneca scientists showed how oranges floated when they had their peel on and then sank when the peel was removed. We also carried out a reaction, creating a gas which inflated a plastic glove!

The scientists taught how to make sherbet using icing sugar, bicarbonate of soda and citric acid. When mixed with water (e.g. our saliva) it fizzes!

We were also taught how to make a battery using lemons, zinc, copper, wires and a clock.

A huge thank you to Astra Zeneca and Black Firs for a great morning!

The chocolate was then heated in the children's hands so the layers merged together to form a metamorphic rock. The layers were now mixed in and unclear to see. Mrs Ashford-Eaton and Miss Young then put their chocolate into boiling water and it melted. We then took it out and let it solidify again to form an igneous rock.
