"They shall have life, life in all its fullness." (John 10:10)

Sports Funding

What we aim to achieve:

At Mossley, we believe that sport is an imperative part of the development of all children. We strive to encourage positive attitudes in all of our pupils so that they understand the key concepts of sport: the hard work and dedication required to develop skills; the team work and responsibility needed to work effectively; the mind-set and attitude to rise to challenges; the spirit and fairness in which we should compete; and the drive and desire to compete effectively, all of which are underpinned by the most important aspect – enjoying the sports we are participating in. These transferable skills can be used in a whole host of situations and therefore, we hope the impact that they have not only helps our pupils succeed in sport, but achieve great things in all forms. ‘Believe, succeed, achieve’ is our school mantra. This is an attitude that we embed within lessons so that our children have a growth mind-set when facing challenge. We believe this helps to prepare children mentally for the demands of sport.

Each year, the government provides sports premium funding so that schools can provide extra resources to develop the implementation of Physical Education in schools. At Mossley, we aim to use this money to achieve all of the objectives set out above. Last year (2015-16), we have been allocated £9650. This year (2016-17), we have been allocated £9695. Below is a list of what we have spent (or plan to spend) our funding on:

  • Entry into town (level 1), cluster (level 2) and County (level 3) sporting events.

(SSSP – Sandbach Schools Sports Partnership)

  • Specialist sports coaching sessions to cater for G and T pupils, delivered by professional coaches.
  • Bikeability – A two day course for all year 6 pupils that teaches the importance of being road safe on a bike.
  • Travel and facility costs so that children can enter into competitive tournaments.
  • Access to appropriate resources and equipment – regularly checked and upgraded.
  • Providing motivational assemblies, delivered by sporting celebrities (team GB athletes etc.) to inspire children.
  • Further equipment to increase the participation of our pupils and offer further opportunities for them to be active in a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs.
  • Specialist sports coaching for specific sports (e.g. Cricket coaching delivered by ECB level 3 coach).
