Year 2 Poetry Reading , by Miss Holland

We had a lovely afternoon today with 'Poetry reading' from Mrs. Swift/Mrs.Utteridge's class. They had written summer poems 'Count on me at the Seaside' which had 10 descriptive, rhyming phrases. They were full of imagery including metaphors and similies so we could picture it in our heads. We all liked the sand as bright as gold, the blue, shimmering sea and of course the seaside ten for fun!!!
The children read to us individually and then we had some brave performers who read their poems out loud to the whole class...........a huge well done, they were fabulous and made us all think of our summer holidays ;-)
Ummmm I wonder if we could write a poem now?!
Chicks!, by Miss Holland

How lucky were we today when we had a surprise visit from Carla's mummy who brought in some 1 and 2 day old chicks! Mrs Smith explained the lifecycle of the chick to us and even had some of the broken egg shells from this morning. She also showed us some photos of the parent hens who were very large and helped us to understand why the chicks were already a good size. We all had chance to stroke or even hold a chick and washed our hands before sharing how they felt. It was interesting to learn about the incubator and the heat lamp.....one chick even fell asleep in Mrs Cropper's hands it was so warm and comfortable!
A HUGE THANKYOU to Mrs Smith for sharing the chicks with us and we can't wait to see them again in a couple of weeks to see their down change to feathers and how much they have grown 
New School Meal system- Amazing, by Mrs Grice

Yesterday we launched the new school meal system and what an improvemnet to the previous one.
The children were extremely happy as there was no queuing and they all got extra play time with their friends. The new Deli bar has been a huge hit with lots of fresh and varied choice.

Year 5 controllable vehicles, by Mr Johnson

Apart from rehearsing and performing 'Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits', during Science and DT week, Year Five were designing and making controllable vehicles.
The children learnt how to measure, mark and cut wood and join it using cardboard triangles. They then researched existing vehicle designs and and created their own body for the car. Once these two aspects were completed, they used their previous learning of electrical circuits and learnt how to fit gears and pulleys to make their vehicle move.
Once complete, the children then used trial and improvement to make their vehicle the best it could be.
Great work again Year Five!
Year 5 Visit to Lyme Park, by Mrs Grice

On Wednesday 18th May year 5 visited Lyme Park in connection with their topic work.
The children were split into groups and did an orienteering exercise using maps to find questions marked. They had so much fun and were extremly competetive.
After a very wet lunch break they then made the walk up 'Cage Hill' to sketch the fantastic view, noting the differences between the urban view and the rural view which could be seen clearly from the same vantage point.
A fun day was had by all.

The Mossley Sharks raised- £228.30
The Mossley Dolphins raised- £226.50
The Mossley Turtles raised- £425.60
Total sponsor money raised by just 16 children

Year 3 Walk Around Mossley, by Miss Young

On Thursday 5th May the Year 3 classes had a wonderful day! As a part of our new topic, we spent the morning studying the local area. We walked from School on a selected route around Mossley, stopping at The Queen's Head public house for juice and biscuits before returning back to school.
On our walk, we mapped out the route that we followed, also adding in OS symbols to show the different points that we passes. Furthermore, we looked at the different services available close to our school including convinienve shops, take-aways and transport stations.
We also did a timed survey of how many cars passed our group within 2 minutes and repeated again for how many people passed us.
When we returned to school we compared and evaluated our results and discussed why we had the results that we did.
We then spent the afternoon sketching and completing observational drawings of the different landscapes around us.
We had a super day! Thank you for all of the staff and parent helpers that attended and helped to make our trip possible. :) Pictures will follow soon!
Primary Dance Festival, by Miss Young

On Wednesday 4th May, some of the Year 3 children took part in the Primary Dance Festival that took place at Eaton Bank Academy. On the day the children left school at 12:30 to attend EBA for rehearsals with the other
Primary Schools that were taking part.
In the evening the children returned in their costumes and with their hair done, ready to perform. They were absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Mrs Hodgkinson and Miss Young were so proud of them and how well they did. If you were unable to watch this, they will be performing again at the crowning of the May King and Queen at School on Friday 13th May.

Ross' Head Shave for Alder Hey, by Mrs Grice

On Tuesday 3rd May, Ross Speight who works for Multiflex (Our Sports Providers) participated in a sponsored head shave. He is raising money for Alder Hey Childrens Hospital. James who is undergoing treatment at the hospital at the moment, helped Mrs Cropper to shave Ross' head and also requested that Ross wore a Manchester United Shirt, which for Ross, was more difficult than the head shave.
James' mum and Dad would like to thank everbody for their support and a huge thank you Ross.

Sports for Schools, by Miss Holland

How exciting to see Hannah Whelen, an Olympic gymnast, in school today to promote sports for schools and help us to take part in our sponsored circuit training!
Phew! That was hard work but greeeeaaaaattttt FUN! We had to jump the bench, scissor jumps, mountain climbers, leg wiggles and star jumps to finally cheer on the rest of our friends.
We certainly earned our sponsor money so a great BIG THANK YOU to all our friends and family who have sponsored us

Our School Pond, by Miss Holland

WoW what an exciting afternoon we have had! We went for a walk down to our school pond to look at the tadpoles that have hatched out of the frogspawn. How lucky are we to see the tadpoles in their natural environment especially as we are learning all about the lifecycle of a Frog! The sun kept peeping out so we could see the tadpoles more clearly and share our squeals of delight as we noticed their wiggling tails in the water amongst the leaves. 
We were also delighted to see the spring flowers blooming in the woodlands...........

This week we held our new Head Boy & Head Girl elections and our current ones stepped down.
We are pleased to announce Harry Bowyer as New Head Boy and Eloise Williams as the New Head Girl.
We also elected new deputies,
Deputy Head Boy is Finlay MacCuish and Deputy Head Girl is Ella Johnson.
Thank you to our previous leaders and duputies for all their hard work over the last term and good luck to newly elected pupils
Choir to Station House, by Miss Young

On Thursday some of the choir went to Station House Day Centre with Miss Young to sing a few songs for the elderly. They were an absolute credit to the school and sung their hearts out. The ladies and gentlemen that we sang for really enjoyed the afternoon and had a great time joining in with some of the songs. We can't wait to go again soon!
The Queen's 90th Birthday celebration week, by Mrs Grice

On Friday 15th April we celebrated the Queens 90th Birthday!!
The children and staff dressed up & were themed around the decades, each year group had a different decade to cover. (see info below) and a themed lunch based on British Classics.
Over the week the children worked in groups and collated information spanning the 90 years of the queens life.
There was a special assembly where each class did a short presentation about what they have learnt over the week.
Reception classes - Wear red, white & blue
Year 1 - The noughties (00’s) and now
Year 2 - 80’s & 90’s
Year 3 - 60’s & 70’s
Year 4 - 40’s & 50’s
Year 5 - 20’s & 30’s
Year 6 - The future
All the children made a fantastic effort with their outfits and had a fun packed week.
Easter Service, by Miss Holland

We had a wonderful Easter service at Mossley church today with the Reverend Taylor. We thought about 'Spring', new life, flowers and growth. Rev.Taylor planted some sunflower seeds and we discussed what is needed to help them to grow. Rev. Taylor then made the link between Spring and Easter for us, comparing the seed in the soil growing up into a flower to Jesus dying and coming alive again. He then gave us the pots to take back to school with us and watch grow. We enjoyed singing our Easter songs and reciting our poem.
Once back to school we celebrated 'Palm Sunday' by creating our own palm leaves and holding a procession around the playground pretending to welcome Jesus into town......"Hosanna to the King!" We are looking forward to the rest of the week and the many Easter activities in store
Sports Relief 2016, by Mrs Grice

On Friday 18th March we held a ‘strictly come dancing’ competition amongst staff. Children were able to choose their favourite act and place their donations into a named tub! There was also a cake sale and children were able to come dressed in their sports clothing or as their favourite sports star.
We raised a whopping £547.24, thank you

Swimming Gala
On Monday 7th March, Mossley entered a team of children into the annual Congleton Swimming Gala at Congleton Leisure Centre. During the Gala, the children had to compete in a variety of events, including: 50m Free Style, 50m Breast Stroke, 25m Breast Stroke, 25m Back Stroke, 4x25m Freestyle Relay and 8x25m Freestyle Relay. After the initial heats, the Mossley children had all progressed through to their respective finals. In the end, the boy’s squad finished 3rd, the girl’s squad finished 2nd and their joint scores gave Mossley an overall place of 2nd. The entire squad swam brilliantly and completed their races in great times. We were extremely proud of their performance and attitude throughout the competition.

Cheshire Hockey Finals
To carry on with the success of our sporting teams this year, Mossley CE Hockey Team progressed through to the Cheshire finals at Alderley Edge Hockey Club on the 8th March. Along with 15 other teams, Mossley were entered into one group of four. The standard of hockey – especially for primary school level – was exceptional and Mossley rose to the tough challenge of the opposition. After their three group games, Mossley had won two games and lost one. This meant that they progressed through to the next stage of the competition in the second league. The team continued to play brilliantly and were on the receiving end of some misfortune in all of the games. They work well as a team and their commitment left both teachers and parents feeling very proud of their achievement. In the end, Mossley finished 8th out of 16 teams.

Year 4 are the Greatest Greeks!, by Mrs Ashford Eaton

This term Year 4 have been learning about the Ancient Greeks.
We have had lots of fun writing our own play scripts based on the myth Perseus and Medusa. Once we had written them we dressed in our finest Greek costumes and acted out our play scripts for the other Year 4 class. We saw some fantastic acting and some brilliantly humorous scenes - we definitely have some marvellous actors in the making!
We have used the image of Medusa and put a spin on it by creating our own Medusa inspired art. They are eye catching and even have 3D snakes and I hope you will agree that the finished pieces are good enough to be in an art gallery!
Cake sale in aid of Ruby's Fund, by Mrs Grice

On Friday 4th March, children from year 5 hosted a cake sale in aid of Ruby's Fund.
They raised a magnificant £88.79, thank you and well done.
Mossley reach the Northern England Finals, by Mrs Grice

North of England Football Finals
After winning the U11 Cheshire football finals, Mossley Y5/6 football team progressed through to the North Of England Finals. The tournament took place on the 5th March in Rotherham and was attended by champions of the 10 northern counties. After an early start at Mossley CE Primary School, the team, staff and parents took the coach to Maltby Academy, Rotherham and arrived at 11.15am.
Mossley were drawn in group 1 against school teams from the counties/regions of: North Yorkshire, Lancashire, South Yorkshire and Northumberland. It was clear from the first whistle that the competition would be fierce. Adding to the intensity of the competition, each game was only 8 minutes long. Mossley won their first game, 2 – 0. Their second game was won 1 – 0 in a very tight affair. Mossley drew their third group game, 0 – 0 although they had much of the possession and had the better chances. The fourth and final group game saw Mossley emerge as 3 – 1 victors after producing some excellent attacking football.
Progressing through the group stages in 1st place, Mossley’s next opponents were the runners up from group 2, a team from Cleveland. After 6 minutes of the match, Mossley were in complete control, winning 1 – 0 after having what appeared to be a legitimate – and quite breath-taking top corner pile driver – goal disallowed. Then, the opposition from Cleveland seemed to get a second wind and in all fairness to them, played some great football in the final 2 minutes. They managed to overturn their 1 – 0 deficit and win the game 2 – 1. The Mossley team were obviously devastated, especially as it could be argued that they were the better side for the majority of the game. However, they picked themselves up and went into the 3rd place play-off against the Lancashire champions they had previously drawn with in the group stages, full of determination to put things right. Mossley won the game 1 – 0 but more importantly, didn’t let their heads drop and give up after their disappointment. All of the staff and parents were incredibly proud of not only what the team managed to achieve, but the passion, commitment and attitude that they applied throughout the tournament. Out of 4500 primary schools in the North of England, Mossley finished in the top 3 – what a marvellous achievement for a team of 10 – 11 year olds from Congleton.

Mother's Day Tea Party, by Miss Holland

How wonderful to have the opportunity to have 'tea with Mummy' It was a great afternoon spending time with our Mummies, showing them our learning books, sharing our poems and working together on the word searches. We proudly sang our 'Mummy thank you, I love you' song and presented our cards. We hope you enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did and your daffodils bloom.

Yay, we've arrived.

World Book Day 2016 - Pyjama Day, by Miss Holland

The children had a wonderful day today wearing their pyjamas all day. We shared our 'favourite books' and explained to our friends 'why' we thought our book was so good. We had princess books, funny books, books by our favourite author, sing-a-long books, information books, fairytale books, books from programmes off the television and even a book about 'poo'!!!!!!!! We had as many opportunities as possible to listen to our stories and an assembly with Mrs Swift to explain World Book Day.
After lunch we all went into the hall with our Year Six reading buddies and shared our own favourite book. We even had 'hot chocolate' to drink too.......zzzzzzz.......night night everyone
