Year 4 have fun with science, by Mrs Knibbs

Date: 29th Nov 2017 @ 9:32am

Tuesday morning saw six, excited year 4 pupils arrive at Black Firs Primary School, where they were led through four science experiments.

Astra Zeneca scientists showed how oranges floated when they had their peel on and then sank when the peel was removed. We also carried out a reaction, creating a gas which inflated a plastic glove!

The scientists taught how to make sherbet using icing sugar, bicarbonate of soda and citric acid. When mixed with water (e.g. our saliva) it fizzes!

We were also taught how to make a battery using lemons, zinc, copper, wires and a clock.

A huge thank you to Astra Zeneca and Black Firs for a great morning!

As you can see from attached photographs Izzy is featured within the "Editors Letter" in the latest edition of Cheshire Life Magazine.

The editor Louise Taylor liked Izzy's story, the fact the little cat is internet savvy, has her own Instagram page with worldwide followers and decided to put her picture in print.

Mia and her family are all enormously proud, hehe!

We hope you like Izzy and the feature. We all think "she's made it".

Year 4 Experiment with eggs, by Mrs Knibbs

Date: 3rd Feb 2017 @ 3:00pm

In science, we tested how different liquids reacted to our teeth we used eggshells to represent our teeth. We soaked eggs in different liquids for 1 week. The different liquids we used were coke, milk, water, orange juice and vinegar. The water made the egg shell turn a darker but didn't change the egg inside. The coke and vinegar cracked the eggshell and turned it a darker colour. We now know that coke and vinegar are not good for our teeth. The orange juice made the eggshell really slippery. We really enjoyed learning about the effect different things have on our teeth. Report written by Ella Knibbs year 4

Epic Year 4, by Mrs Knibbs

Date: 3rd Feb 2017 @ 2:31pm

This week in English our topic was Greek Myths, we created Greek monsters, whilst writing about them we used expanded noun phrases to describe. We used the green screen to plot the Greek timeline which was great fun. This taught us about things such as the classic period and Alexander the Great taking over as the ruler of Greece. Report written by Ruby Downing & Holly Egerton Year 4
