Year 6 Volcanoes, by Mrs Knibbs
Date: 3rd Feb 2017 @ 11:50am
For the last week, we have been designing a 3d volcano. The materials we used were as follows:Paint (a lot of it); newspaper and kitchen roll; a plastic bottle and tape. We have been screwing the newspapeer into balls and sticking them together with PVA glue around the plastic bottle. Then we covered it with kitchen roll. After that, we painted it with either grey, brown or black paint for the base colour. We then dry brushed, which is one of the new techniques we used, and highlighted the parts that stuck out giving it a more realistic touch. We then made it drip with red and yellow paint for the lava. This has been a very fun experience and we hope to do it again. Report written by Jack Walker, Noah Negus and Ellis Statham Year 6. Some of the comments whilst they were working: "I'm going to do this in an angry voice now" "I love being the wolf" "Shall I pretend this pig is really brave?"
Year 6 Super Tasters, by Mrs Knibbs
Date: 26th Jan 2017 @ 11:14am
Today we did a science experiment to find out, who in class is a super taster. We used blue food colouring as it does not stick to tastebuds, then we counted the number of tastebuds we each have. It was really fun and interesting testing how well you taste. I think that doctors could carry this out. Report written by Jacob Cowling Year 6

Year 3 Hanukkah, by Mrs Knibbs
Date: 25th Jan 2017 @ 10:06am
Today in R.E we ate potato cakes to show how much oil is in the lamp. We made a dreidel because it is a jewish symbol game/spinning top. We learnt that Hanukkah is an 8 day celebration that celebrates the Jewish win against the Greeks years ago. The Hanukkah is 8 days because the oil in the lamp burnt for 8 days, however it was only supposed to last for 1 day it was a miracle. Report written By Jack White Year 3

Indoor Athletics, by Mrs Knibbs
Date: 26th Jan 2017 @ 3:25pm
Indoor Athletics
On Monday 16th January, Mossley took part in an indoor athletics competition at Eaton Bank Academy. Along with 3 other Congleton Schools from the Eaton Bank Cluster, Year 5 and 6 children from Mossley competed in a range of track and field events, spanning from sprints to hurdles, triple jumps to soft javelin throws. As always, the children’s attitude whilst at the event, in terms of both their behaviour and their approach towards their chosen disciplines, was very impressive. And although the events that the children did compete in were mainly individual events, they demonstrated fantastic team spirit, showing support for all of our pupils.
Mossley were very competitive in all the events and their overall performance meant that they won the competition. They now progress through to the next round at Sandbach High in February. Here they will compete against schools from Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Alsager and another school from the Congleton High Cluster.

Keystrings at Christmas, by Mrs Knibbs
Date: 21st Dec 2016 @ 1:44pm
Today, we were really lucky to have Keystrings come to visit us. They taught us all about the string family that includes: violin, double bass and the chello. We liked how there were bits of comedy and how they made us all laugh. We liked how they played the instruments in harmony and did it to modern songs. Some children were also allowed to take part by playing the instruments. They helped us to make a picture in our head using music and taught us if the instrument is bigger the sound is lower: By Lauren Hillier and Maise Walker Year 5

A growth mindset from a GB athlete’s perspective., by Mrs Grice
Date: 12th Dec 2016 @ 11:36am
A growth mindset from a GB athlete’s perspective.
Jack Schofield visited Mossley Primary school to encourage our children to embrace a growth mindset. This was Jack’s second visit to school to help motivate and inspire our children. During his presentation he explained the qualities and skills needed to adopt a growth mindset and the personal rewards when you do. His motto is “Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard”.
Jack represented GB this summer in the European and World Long distance triathlon Championships where he won silver and bronze medals. Jack talked through the ups and downs of his race days and how he had to go into the pit and find the growth mindset to pull himself out to enable him to succeed. His races last about 9 hours and the children were amazed to think that he raced for longer than a school day.
Jack’s visit was the introduction to our new Fabulous Friday’s at Mossley. On Fabulous Fridays we celebrate the children who have shown a growth mindset and reward them for their achievements, friendship qualities and citizenship. The children will enter the “Hall of Fame”.
The school council came up with the ideas and the Head boy and Head girl with their deputies visited A D Profile to meet a designer who helped them to design and produce our new certificates. Our thanks goes to them for giving the children such a lasting and rewarding experience.
Fabulous Fridays will also see some pupils being served their lunch sitting at a VIP table. These children will have been chosen by our Midday Assistants and kitchen staff for their good manners.
